On this day 19 years ago, on September 4, 2004, "in the most transparent company" of Mikhail Khodorkovsky was studied yet another package of tax claims to Yukos. The day before, the Russian Tax agency served to representatives of Yukos the ruling of the Ministry on Taxes and Levies on conviction of the company of tax charges for committing tax violations, which were found out in the course of the examination of its activity in 2001. The final sum of the tax arrears was impressive – 119 billion 887 million 190.7 thousand rubles.
As it was noted in the decision of the Ministry for Taxes and Levies, Yukos "registered entities in Mordovia, Evenkia, Kalmykia, in closed administrative-territorial entities, in the town Baykonur. And, according to the conclusions of tax inspectors, “the company committed deliberate actions relating to artificial execution of turnovers with oil and oil products through specially created organizations registered in different regions of the Russian Federation and towns which illegally granted tax benefits”.
The Ministry of Taxes and Levies of Russia as early as August 2004 informed about its decision to carry out additional tax control measures with regard to Yukos for the year 2001. At the same time, the experts of the Ministry for Taxes and Levies earmarked “extremely sophisticated” schemes of tax evasion practiced by Yukos.

“I think the main participation of big companies in social life is paying taxes. Because the more effectively we work, the more can get the social sphere”, said Mikhail Borisovich Khodorkovsky trying to convince the general public.
The formula seems to be correct. But, in the case of the empire of Khodorkovsky, it has been simply turned inside out – the more Yukos evaded taxes, the less became the budget and the social sphere. On the other hand, the offshore dumps of Yukos spread through the whole world bloated out in leaps and bounds. Bloated out thanks to money which were syphoned out of Russia and hidden from tax authorities”, notes the website Prigovor.ru.
